If you like games where you loot for weapons and enjoy bashing zombies in first-person there's a good chance you'll like Dying Light at least (again. The games aren't nearly as wacky as some of the Dead Rising stuff but I didn't play DR3 so I don't know how they compare. However, DI: Riptide fixes some of the issues with the original DI game, and adds new features, such as adding more weapons such as nail-guns, sniper-rifles, and etc.and lets you travel by. I believe it's technically an expansion to Dead Island, a follow-up using the same engine, gameplay, and mechanics, but in a new environment. So I'd have to get both to play the original and sequel then I believe so. Dying Light probably has the best first person parkour in video games outside of the first Mirror's Edge and you gain xp to level up and earn different abilities like the drop kick, camouflaging yourself with zombie guts, running slides etc. 11 PlayStation Video game console Gaming 11 comments Add a Comment Riptide is the sequel. They have a lot of loot, mostly in the form of RNG weapons that have durability stats so you have to keep looting but you can add modifiers so they apply fire damage, electric damage etc. Dead Island 2 looks absolutely amazing too so if you end up liking whichever one(s) you do play, be sure to keep that on your radar. The only way that Dead Island and Dying Light are connected though is that the original developers of Dead Island created Dying Light, don't think there are any cameos or Easter eggs since they split off to do their own thing. It has what seem to me to be nearly identical combat mechanics, character growth systems, and even action scenarios. ago Dead island 1 is a game that manages to capture the actual feel of a zombie apocalypse by Turing the dials to 11. It calls to mind a certain line famously uttered by Bruce Willis in Die Hard 2.Īnd the sequel shares more than just a similar story. Here’s the short version of what happens in Riptide: The survivors we spent 20 hours guiding off a zombie-filled island in the first game get shipwrecked on another zombie-filled island that takes them another 20 hours or so to escape. That’s really all there is to it, plot-wise. That said, I will blame them for crafting a game that fails to evolve - or even alter, really - their original, middling effort in any meaningful way. The Floater is first encountered in the cutscene for the Sewers, emerging from the water after the level drops enough for it to gain its footing.
